Hatsuye “Hatsy” Murakami (98) a Hasty, Colorado-born Nisei and resident of W. Anaheim, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2019 at Kindred Hospital in Westminster with family present.
She was interned at the Poston, Arizona War Relocation Center during WWII. The family grew strawberries in Orange County, starting in the early fifties, until 1993. Hatsy always sold her family’s delicious strawberries from a little roadside stand, first in Garden Grove and later in Anaheim.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Yukito and her five brothers Roy Eichiro Shozi, Dan Mitsugi, Tom Tadashi, Takeo “Jimmy” & Shigeru “Shig.” Survived by children: Carolyn Yumiko Crumly (Bill), Keith Takashi (Sue), Steven Tetsuo & Walter Yukio (Coreen). Also, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A private memorial service was held on May 24, 2019 at Westminster Memorial Park, officiated by
Rev. Kevin Wong of Anaheim Free Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed.
