At the age of 89, most of Tom’s friends have passed, but there are still a few who will remember him with a smile … and sadness, that he too is no longer with us.
Tom was born in Los Angeles, Calif. Interned at Heart Mountain camp in Wyoming. Attended Roosevelt H.S. in Boyle Heights, Class of ’47. Served in the U.S. Army, honorably discharged as a corporal. Graduated from Los Angeles Art Center, with B.S. degree in industrial design. Tom married Grace Oba in Sept 1957 and had 3 children in Chicago, Ill. He returned to L.A. to take care of his elderly parents, after his older brother John Shigeru died. Tom retired from TRW. Tustin became their residence for the last 30 years.
Tom is survived by his wife Grace; children Karen Takeuchi, John Takeuchi, Susan (Scott Lips); grandchildren: Alexa, Brett, Carly Takeuchi and Daniel, Josh Lips. Also many extended family in Southern California, Oahu, Hawaii and Yamaguchi-ken, Japan.
To honor Tom’s wishes, no funeral. Cremation by Neptune Society, Costa Mesa, Calif.
