Mrs. Kazuye Tsuboi passed away peacefully in Alhambra, Calif. at the age of 94.

Born in San Diego, Calif., Kazuye was the oldest of three children to Meijiro and Fusayo Sato. Raised in Los Angeles, she would meet John Nobuo Tsuboi and would later marry him in Gila River internment camp. Postwar, she worked with her father, building the family-run Asia Travel Bureau business in Little Tokyo. She successfully ran the family business for over 60 years and traveled the world together with her late husband, John, throughout their 54 years of marriage.

After retirement, she volunteered with various Japanese organizations, namely the Japanese Women’s Society of Southern California (JWSSC) and the Okayama Kenjin Kai. It was at the JWSSC where she was awarded the “Woman of the Year” for her dedication to the Japanese community. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her dog, Koko.

Kazuye is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Charlotte and Day Higuchi; her son and daughter in-law, Richard and Nancy Tsuboi; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private family service was held at Evergreen Cemetery on Nov. 18, 2019. In lieu of koden, please donate to a charity of your choice.
