Raykow Mayeda

Raykow Mayeda, 90-year-old, resident of Monterey Park passed away peacefully on Jan. 31. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Feb. 29, 2020; 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 300 S. Central Ave. in Los Angeles.

Ray is pre-deceased by beloved wife Rose. He is survived by son Thomas, daughter-in-law Alvina and grandson Elijah. Also survived by brother Kenzo Mayeda; sister Koharu Nakamura; sister-in-law Ann Mayeda and many nieces, nephews and relatives.

When Ray was 12, the family was incarcerated in Heart Mountain and later Tule Lake relocation camp. After Tule Lake the family settled in the Los Angeles area. Ray was a veteran in the Korean War, stationed in Seoul. Ray did not look back to the past, instead worked hard for his future. Ray settled in Monterey Park, co-owned a brake service shop, married and raised his family. Ray was active at church, and at the Monterey Park Japanese Senior Club.
