Shoko Phyllis Masumiya
November 23, 1959 – January 25, 2020
Shoko Phyllis Masumiya passed away suddenly due to heart complications on January 25, 2020 at home in Highlands Ranch.
She was born in Portland, Oregon on November 23, 1959 to Benjamin and Mae Manuel. After Benjamin’s death, her mother Mae remarried Kazuo Kiyomura. Kazuo Kiyomura would adopt Shoko and her two sisters, Pearl and Patty. In 1962 the family moved to Los Angeles where Sho attended St. Gregory’s School, then attended St. Mary’s Academy, transferring her sophomore year to Immaculate Heart High School graduating in 1977.
Shoko married her high school sweetheart Craig on August 6, 1977 and they would go on to have daughters Katrina and Kelly. The family moved to Laguna Hills (CA), then Maui (HI), and would eventually settle in their home state of Colorado where they have lived since 1995.
Shoko is survived by her husband and best friend, Craig, daughter Katrina (Rich) Winiarski, grandson Kaz Winiarski (9), daughter Kelly (George) Anzaldo Masumiya, granddaughter Masako Masumiya (2), sister Pearl (Melvin) Iizuka, sister Patricia (Kelly) Eastham, nephews Joseph Masumiya and Jeff Tufts, nieces Gena Celli, Lisa Guadagnolo, Kristin Iizuka and Allison Masumiya, grandnephews Luke Tufts and Kane Celli and grandniece Chloe Thuler.
A Celebration of Life for Sho will be held on February 15, 2020 @ 11 am at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd St, Torrance, CA 90504.
