Alyce Katsuko Kuranaga
January 19, 1927 – April 8, 2020
Alyce Katsuko Kuranaga, nèe Hamada, was born in Sacramento, California on January 19, 1927. She was the third of Haruye and John Hatsuki Hamada’s nine children. Alyce settled down in Southern California and married Harry Kuranaga. They had two children, Sharon and Rodney.
Alyce retired from Gardena Printing Press and was active at Gardena Valley Baptist Church (GVBC). She enjoyed traveling and taking numerous trips, especially to the Hawaiian Islands with her daughter Sharon’s family. After she became a widow, she also traveled with her (GVBC) group and also to Europe with her siblings and boss, Bill. Alyce, known as Grandma Aly to her grandkids, enjoyed having her grandkids over for sleepovers and picking them up from school. She also enjoyed attending their Sansei baseball and softball games and regular visits to the beauty and nail salon. Her favorite colors were lavender and green.
She passed away suddenly on April 8, 2020 at the age of 93 years old due to cardiac complications. Alyce is survived by her daughter Sharon and (Dennis) Yamanaka, grandchildren Curtis and (Lauren) Yamanaka, Jackie and (Samuel) Ho, Marcus Yamanaka, daughter in law Linda Kuranaga, grandchildren Bryan and (Kathryn) Kuranaga, and great grandchildren Jeremiah, Daniel, and Anna Kuranaga. Alyce also leaves behind five siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be buried with her family, including her husband Harry, son Rodney, and parents, at Rose Hills, memorial pending.
