Shizuko Horita Ito

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to our dear mother Shizuko Horita Ito, as she succumbed to Alzheimer’s complications on May 27th at the age of 92. She went peacefully surrounded by her three children. As a child of Japanese immigrants, she rose above the Great Depression, a WWII internment camp, and post-war discrimination. She studied bacteriology at UCLA and worked tirelessly as a medical lab technologist for 45 years. Along with our father, she raised and put her three children through college. She devoted her life to her family, including grand and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert. She is survived by children, Louise (Jeff Kessler), John Ito (Wendy), Nancy (Todd Kurtin); siblings Yayoi, Miyuki, and Setsuo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
