Shizuko Horita

Shizuko Horita, 88 years old, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2020 at Providence Saint John’s Health Center after a brief illness. Shizuko will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Shizuko was born in Fresno, CA, the youngest daughter of 4 siblings. She was 12 when her family was sent to Poston, AZ. She married Ted Horita in 1951, and they welcomed daughter Marilyn, then son Neil. Shizuko and Ted enjoyed 68 happy years together.

A UCLA graduate, she was employed by Kaiser as a Lab Supervisor.

Shizuko had a beautiful smile, and was a loving and caring mom and grammy, remembered for being patient and kind while helping with homework and projects, comforting family, and taking the kids and grandkids to school, piano lessons and playdates. She welcomed new family members wholeheartedly, and enjoyed traveling with her family – who fondly remember the latest trip to Switzerland, France and Germany as “a fantastic time”.

In addition to spending time with her grandchildren, Shizuko loved gardening, watching Korean dramas, keeping up with health journals, and incorporating ways to stay healthy naturally. Shizuko also was very spiritual and loved God.

She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Marilyn Horita-Hill; her sisters, Hiro and Miyo (Betty), and brother George. She is survived by her husband, Ted; son, Neil (Claire) Horita; son-in-law, Cameron Hill; grandchildren, Riley Horita and Dana Hill; nephews, Tim (Rona) Minami and Ken (Ellen) Minami; niece, Sachiko (Ken) Minami; and grandnieces, Elise and Michele Minami.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
