Jane Kazumi Sakamoto - Rafu Shimpo

Jane Kazumi Sakamoto, born Nov. 11, 1930, passed away peacefully at her residence at the age of 89 in Gardena, Calif. on Aug. 11, 2020. She is survived by her two sisters, Amy Tsubokawa of Lakewood, Calif. and JoAnn Kuroda of Long Beach, Calif. She had many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Jane was predeceased by her parents, Seki and Shizue Sakamoto, two younger brothers, Roy Seigo and Michael Seiji Sakamoto.

Due to COVID-19, a private family memorial service was held and presided by Rev. Peter Hata of Higashi Honganji in August 2020 at the Fukui Mortuary Chapel. Jane worked at the Los Angeles County Hospital before becoming a school nurse for LAUSD.

Jane was an avid reader, loved to travel (around the world twice) and eat gourmet foods. She gave many volunteer hours to the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA).
