Nobuko “Noby” Uyesugi
June 13, 1929 – September 15, 2020

Born to Shigeru and Sen Okuma in Brawley, Calif., Noby passed away at her home in Whittier, Calif. She was the youngest and last member of the 7 Okuma siblings. During the war the family was interned in Poston War Relocation Center in Arizona (Camp 1). When the camp closed they relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she met the love of her life, Manch (Tak) Uyesugi. They eventually returned to California and settled in Whittier.

Noby was a long-time member of Montebello Plymouth Congregational Church and served faithfully on various boards and committees. She loved music and sang in the church choir. Her love for travel took her around the world to Italy, Greece, England, Ireland, Japan, Hong Kong, China, the Caribbean, Mexico, Panama, and various destinations throughout the states. Noby also enjoyed watching her favorite L.A. Lakers, golf, and American Ninja Warriors. Her appreciation of the arts included ikebana, quilting and needlepointing.

A private graveside service will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar where she will be laid to rest.

She is survived by her children Dennis (Jeanne) Uyesugi, Eileen Mitsueda, Lori (David) Katayama; grandchildren – Brian (Maria) Uyesugi, Allison (Thomas) Combahee, Heather (Aldrine) Guerrero, Danielle (Jimmy) Kou, Aaron Katayama; great-grandchildren Mika, Kaida, Darren, Elle, Grayson; sister-in-laws Mary Uyesugi, Sachi Uyesugi, Aya Okuma, Yuki Okuma and many nieces and nephews.
