Frank Fujio Sawai

Frank Fujio Sawai was born in Torrance, Calif., on March 19, 1931. He passed away peacefully in his home on December 2, 2020. At the time when World War II began, Frank and his family were relocated to Jerome Arkansas, and Gila Arizona internment camp. After his time at camp, Frank and his family moved to Detroit, Michigan where he attended Cass Tech High School, and worked as a ball boy for the Detroit Tigers. In 1947, he moved to Los Angeles where he attended LA Trade Tech School.

When the Korean War began in1951, Frank was drafted into the Army. Soon after the war ended the following year in 1954, he met and married Lily Hiji. Frank and Lily resided in Gardena for 50 years before moving closer to their children in Camarillo. They shared 66 years of marriage and three children. Frank is survived by his beloved wife Lily; children, Karyn (Dr. Nelson), Kathy (Michael) Koga, son, Kevin (Joanne); grandchildren, Nelson, Matthew, Dr. Karlyn and Marcus Murata, Kelsey, Dr. Jared, and Kamryn Koga, Brittney and Brianna Sawai. Services will be held at a later date.
