Hatsumi Nishimori
October 18, 1920 — December 7, 2020
Hatsumi Nishimori was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. At the age of 100, she passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 in her home in Camarillo, Calif., surrounded by her family.
She was born to Toshikata and Ine Yamauchi on October 18, 1920 in Compton, Calif. As the oldest of four, she watched over her younger siblings, Itto, Toshiko and Teruko. She was a graduate of Compton High School. Like other Nisei families living in California, their lives were interrupted when the entire family relocated during WWII to Gila River Relocation Camp. During this time, she married her husband, Jinobu, and gave birth to her first son, Roy. Despite hardships, Hatsumi never lost her optimistic outlook on life. After working hard her entire life, she was able to relax and spent her later years enjoying her family’s company and watching her favorite shows. As a loyal fan of the Dodgers and Lakers, she never missed a game! When sports weren’t on, she was either watching the Cooking Channel, Sumo wrestling or her Japanese dramas. She had endless stories and knowledge to share. She taught her grandchildren to always try their best, to put family first and to laugh daily. For those remaining, we will always remember her as a loving, caring, generous and supportive woman. She will be greatly missed.
Hatsumi was predeceased by her husband, Jinobu Nishimori, brother, Itto Yamauchi, and sister, Teruko Namba. She is survived by her sons, Roy (Jan), Wayne, David (Nancy), Dr. Kevin (Jean) and Jon (Janice) Nishimori. Her 12 grandchildren, Aaron (Angee), Kerri (Michael), Garrett (Tiffany), Jessalyn (Long), Derek, Kalin, Kelli, Brittany, Kristi, Mandi, Jonny, Joey; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jason, Caleb and Devon. She is also survived by her sister, Toshiko Tomooka, and sister-in-law, Fujiye Yamauchi.
We would like to thank Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice for their care in her last months of life.
A private graveside service will be held by the family at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park.
