Tsuneo Hiyake, 92, resident of Monterey Park, passed away on November 27, 2020.

Mr. Hiyake was born on Jan. 11, 1928 in Los Angeles, California. He attended high school while at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyoming. He continued his education at the University of Wyoming and the University of California, Berkeley before graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of California at Los Angeles.

He enjoyed fishing in Mammoth, watching his beloved Dodgers, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Hiyake; children, Susan (Gerry) Nakafuji, Paul (Sandee) Hiyake, and Kathy (Rick) Chuman; grandchildren, Derek and Jason Nakafuji, Kristyn and Kenneth Hiyake, and Timothy and Kaylie Chuman; sister, Miyo (Jimmy) Fujimori; brother, Masayuki Hiyake of Japan; also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives in California and in Japan.

A private memorial service was held at Evergreen Cemetery on Dec. 9, 2020, officiated by Rev. Rick Chuman of JEMS.
