Bette Nakatomi
August 5, 1924 — January 15, 2021

Bette Nakatomi passed away on January 15, 2021 at home surrounded by loved ones. Born August 5, 1924 in Santa Barbara, she was the third child of Eitaro and Nui Nakashima and was predeceased by sister Tatsu, brothers George and Sam. She spent her early years in the San Gabriel Valley, attended Mark Keppel High School and was set to graduate in 1942. On February 19, Executive Order 9066 forced her family to Gila River, Arizona where they remained during World War II. In 2002, she returned to her high school for graduation and at the age of 78, receiving her diploma.

Beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, she was predeceased by her husband, James Nakatomi in 2005. Sacramento was her home and she enjoyed a career at the California Department of Parks and Recreation. She will be remembered for her warmth, humor and devotion to family and friends and radiated strength and resilience throughout her life. She is survived by children: Barbara (Jim Perna), Debra (Bob Miyamoto), Judy (Ricky Schlesinger), Douglas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
