Mieko Ishigo
December 22, 1934 – December 27, 2020

Mieko Ishigo, aka, “Mrs. Aikane,” 86-year old Hilo, Hawaii-born and long-time resident of Gardena passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 27, 2020. Known for her Aloha spirit, hard work, sense of humor, and tireless energy, she co-owned the Aikane Take-Out business for 17 years in Gardena and was well liked for piling generous portions of Hawaiian/Asian style food on her customers’ combination plates. A member of the Hui Aikane Club of the Gardena Buddhist Church, she enjoyed volunteering to make the udon dashi or serving customers at the annual Obon and Fujimatsuri bazaars. Prior to the pandemic, she took pleasure on her first Alaskan cruise with her family, playing the poker machines at her favorite California Hotel in Las Vegas, and exercising and socializing at the Rush gymnasium. Always up for challenges and possessing a spry attitude, she partook in short hikes with her family while fishing in Mammoth, vacationing in Hawaii, and excursions to the local parks. She was eager to share her Satsuma tangerines and kaki with family and friends. Most recently, she celebrated her 86th birthday on Dec. 22.

Predeceased by her husband, Itsuo Ishigo, and siblings Isoichi Ueda, and Kiyoshi Ueda; beloved mother is survived by daughters, Christine (David) Nakamura and Stacy (Danny) Hoo; grandmother of Lauren (Alex Uda, fiancé) and Ryan Nakamura and Nathan Hoo; she is also survived by her sisters, Asako Igawa, Nancy Ueda, Carole Nakasone, brother, Clarence Ueda, sister-in-law, Norma Ishigo, and many relatives, nieces, and nephews. A private viewing was held at Fukui Mortuary.
