Misayo Shiba passed away peacefully with family by her side December 27, 2023, after a large stroke. She passed comfortably and with dignity.
She was the youngest born to Matsujiro and Ishi Sakurada in Terminal Island, San Pedro, Calif. on April 2, 1924. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Joseph Minoru Shiba, February 26, 1968 (age 46); sisters, Fuku Sato, Chiyoko (Ken) Sakurada; and adopted brother, Kisajiro (Fujiko) Sakurada. She leaves behind her two daughters, Sharon Shiba and Christine (Mark) Uyehara; and granddaughter, Maille Emiko Uyehara.
Misayo married Joseph Minoru Shiba in January 1952. When he passed away in 1968, she courageously led the household as a seamstress. She worked her way up from piecework to high-end evening wear, working with the top tier in fashion, while raising two daughters.
She was a wonderful Obachan to Maille, showing her how to live life with happiness, to be independent, and adaptable. We were fortunate to share her long life. We will also try to live our lives to our best to honor her. We miss her so much.
