Tomisaburo Wakayama stars in “Gold Thieves.”

WEST COVINA — A new year of samurai film screenings starts Sunday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at Sugimoto Family Social Hall, East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center, 1203 W. Puente Ave., West Covina, and via Zoom.

Yoshiyuki Kuroda’s 1983 film “Gokinzo Yaburi: Sado no Kinzan o Nerae” (Samurai Gold Thieves: Raid on Sado Island), starring Tomisaburo Wakayama, will be shown with English subtitles.

Kichibei, a humble priest, gets called upon to investigate the corruption and murder on Sado Island. He and a handful of skilled agents recruited from the underworld must infiltrate the island and take on a ruthless squad of killers in a furious, blood-soaked conclusion. Who will return alive?
