EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Maryland softball team suffered a weekend sweep after narrowly losing Game 3 of its series against visiting Northwestern, 2-1, on Sunday.
Maryland is now 17-24 overall and 4-10 in Big Ten play. Northwestern improved to 26-8 and 12-1 in the conference.

In the third inning of Saturday’s Game 2, senior outfielder Megan Mikami hit a leadoff double, fol-lowed by a Jaeda McFarland double, but the Terrapins couldn’t convert for a score.

The double was Mikami’s first career hit against Northwestern.

The Wildcats hit two solo home runs in the bottom of the third to go up 6-1. Northwestern added two more runs on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single.

Maryland loaded the bases in the top of the fourth but the score held at 8-1.

Northwestern tacked on another four runs with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth.
Mikami is currently fourth on the team with a .315 batting average and third on the team with hits at 34. This season, she has set the record for most stolen bases in school history, currently at 70.

Maryland is back in action at Maryland Softball Stadium against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County on Wednesday. The first pitch is at 6 p.m. EDT and the game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
