August 26, 1930 – March 8, 2024

Tsutomu “Tom” Ige passed away on March 8, 2024, at Nikkei Senior Gardens in Arleta, Calif. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen, and his siblings, Kenyei, Hiroshi, and Yasuye Konya. He is survived by his daughter, Natalie Ige Muldaur, and her husband, Ray, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born on Terminal Island, Calif., on August 26, 1930, Tom resided there until being relocated to Rohwer internment camp during World War II. Upon release, he returned to Japan and later joined the United States Air Force. It was there that he met Helen at work, and they married in Japan in 1959. They had Natalie in 1961, and in 1965 he was transferred back to the States. Tom dedicated many years of service to the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), where he steadily climbed the ranks and transferred to various locations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Panama.

After retiring in 1985, he and Helen settled in California, where Natalie had made her home. He found joy in playing golf, drinking coffee, and indulging in sweets, particularly ice cream, and he held a deep love and loyalty for his family. He was admired for being kind, generous, considerate, and caring, and will be missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Tom’s name to Nikkei Senior Gardens, 9221 Arleta Ave., Arleta, CA 91331.
