Alex Garcia Takata

On Jan. 17, Alex Garcia Takata became an Eagle Scout with Troop 773 of El Segundo.
Troop 773 is the oldest of three troops in El Segundo and has existed since 1955. Alex started as a Cub Scout in 2014 and has continued along a path that has allowed him to achieve scouting’s highest honor. Only about 4% of all scouts become an Eagle Scout.

His Eagle project consisted of building a succulent garden in a barren plot of land, as well as preparing two other plots of land for science gardens. His high school, the California Academy of Math and Science (CAMS) in Carson, was grateful to Alex for helping to beautify the campus.

When asked about the difficulty of becoming an Eagle Scout, he said, “It’s been very challenging to balance all of the AP classes, robotics, volleyball, Class Board, martial arts, confirmation, and other activities with scouting. You really have to keep at it and find time to participate and keep moving forward.”

Palms for earning additional merit badges beyond what is necessary to achieve Eagle Scout. As an Eagle Scout, he exemplifies the virtues of service, leadership, and duty to God, using his training and influence to better his communities and the world.

Alex plans to major in mechanical engineering in college.
