December 31, 1939 – April 28, 2024
Dick Morishita passed away on April 28, 2024, in Las Vegas. He was a devoted family man who always lived life to its fullest. A golf fanatic, he played all his adult life until rotator cuff surgery put him on the sidelines while he recovered. Dick grew up in East L.A., in his home at 3343 Eagle St. This small two-bedroom and one-bathroom home was bursting at the seams with the growing family of four boys. In his youth, he loved playing sports and hanging out with his close group of friends in their “club,” The Koshakus. This brotherhood was great, and lifelong connections were made, but Dick decided that his life needed direction, so he went into the service and joined the Navy, where he served with honor on the USS Blue (DD-387).
Once back in California, he met the love of his life, Marie “Mo” Murasaki, whom he married and shared his life with for 63 years. They purchased their first home in Monterey Park, where they raised their two sons, Derek and Christopher. In 1980, Dick took a job in Saudi Arabia and off they went traveling the globe. Many thought they were crazy, but it turned into a great, new, and exciting adventure. Their travels took them to Egypt, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and so many other fun and exciting destinations and cruises.
When Dick looked for the next adventure, he followed his love for golf to Sun City Summerlin, Las Vegas. He found a job working as the starter at Eagle Crest Golf Course, which allowed him to play as much golf as his heart desired. He formed great friendships who he played golf and socialized with up until the week before he passed away.
Dick lost his loving wife, Mo, in 2023; and is survived by his sons, Derek (Cassandra) and Christopher. He has one surviving brother, Paul (Ann) Morishita. He also leaves behind his loving granddaughters, Jillian Clark and Shaina Clark; and three adoring great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Joshua, and Teague. Dick will be laid to rest with military honors at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
