The Japanese American National Museum presented its annual Natsumatsuri Family Festival on Aug. 10. The free event featured:

Performances by Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko, East L.A. Taiko, and Cold Tofu Improv;

An Obon lecture by Rinban William Briones of Nishi Hongwanji and community dance led by Elaine Fukumoto;

A taiko workshop for kids and their parents led by Hal Keimi and other JANM volunteers;

A Giant Robot drawing workshop with the artist duo Giorgiko;

Book readings with the Los Angeles Public Library and “Sachiko Goes Racing” author and former pro race car driver Nadine Sachiko Hsu;

A book sale benefiting JANM’s Collections Management and Access;

A scavenger hunt for prizes in the museum’s exhibition “J.T. Sata: Immigrant Modernist”;

Souvenir photos by cre8tive outlets.

Visitors also viewed the Los Angeles Tanabata Festival’s colorful kazari (decorations).

The event coincided with the first day of the Nisei Week Japanese Festival.
