ARCADIA — Santa Anita Park, a sister thoroughbred racetrack to Tokyo City Keiba’s Oi Racetrack in Tokyo, will host the 29th running of the Tokyo City Cup (GIII) on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Along with the race, Japan Family Day will be held on Oct. 5 and 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate the partnership between the two racetracks with a wide variety of Japanese cultural exhibitions, food booths, and travel information on Japan.

The Tokyo City Cup, won last year by Missed the Cut, is the sole graded stakes race named for a major city outside of the U.S. A special Tokyo City Cup giveaway is available for a limited number of attendees and various giveaways from sponsors.

Detailed information for the event will be available at www.tokyocitycup.com and www.japanfamilyday.com. Gates open at Santa Anita Park at 11 a.m., with the first post at 1 p.m.

Japan Family Day features Japanese cultural exhibition booths, a taiko performance, a live calligraphy performance, Japanese pop culture, cosplay, various entertainment for children (games, bounce house, Japanese Matsuri Booth, Kids Dance Stage, etc.), and many opportunities to enjoy Japanese cuisine, such as sushi, curry rice, okonomiyaki, yakitori, takoyaki, onigiri, tonkatsu, tamagoyaki, Japanese BBQ, karaage, shaved ice and much more.

2024 Tokyo City Cup Ambassador Atsuna Matsui, a fashion, lifestyle, and beauty blogger based in Los Angeles, will be available throughout the day for photos. She has 3.24 million followers on YouTube, 862,000 followers on TikTok and 400,000 followers on Instagram.

Santa Anita Park (www.santaanita.com) is located in Arcadia, a residential community 14 miles northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Santa Anita Park’s fall meet will open on Sept. 27, with racing continuing through Oct. 27, Friday through Sunday.
