Sakura Kokumai
The East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center will partner with Fanded Inc. to present an afternoon with Sakura Kokumai on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 12 to 2 p.m.
Kokumai made history as the only woman to represent the U.S. in karate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and recently made waves again by winning back-to-back golds in kata at the Pan American Games. As she continues to chase her Olympic dreams, she’s passionate about inspiring more girls and women to take up karate, and advocating for the sport’s return to the 2028 L.A. Olympics.
Kokumai will take part in a panel discussion, Q&A and a karate demonstration and clinic in the ESGVJCC Gym from 12 to 1 p.m. From 1 to 2 p.m., the event will move to the Social Hall for refreshments, mingling, photos, and a chance to chat with Kokumai.
ESGVJCC is located at 1203 W. Puente Ave., West Covina. RSVP by Dec. 1 to http://tinyurl.com/SakuraEventRSVP. For more information, email hello@fanded.com.
