January 9, 1932 – December 4, 2024

Millie Nishihira went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2024. Although it was unexpected, her entire family came to be with their beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma and sister, in her final hours.

Millie was born to Charles and Vivian Oishi and raised in Honolulu. After she graduated from Queen’s Hospital School of Nursing, she married the love of her life, Moriyoshi Nishihira, on August 14, 1954. Together, they relocated to Los Angeles and raised their four children in Torrance, Calif. They were happily married for 68 years, until Yoshi’s passing on January 7, 2023.

Millie is survived by her only sister, Sharon (Allan) Freitas. Lovingly remembered by her four children: Wendy (Lamont) Leonard, Cindy (Ray) Tomita, Chuck (Shawn) Nishihira, and Joyce (Craig) Murata. Caring grandma to Christa and Sarah, Steven (Kaitlin) and Michael, Jana (Ryan), Matthew and Rachel; and great-grandma to Maddie.

Millie enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, family and dear friends. She loved to exercise, attend church, read and stay active in her community.

Millie’s generosity came from her sincere and caring heart. Although Millie started her career as a registered nurse and ended it as a nurse practitioner in internal medicine at Kaiser Hospital, she never stopped providing care and medical advice to her family and others.

All who knew and loved Millie are invited to a celebration of life on Saturday, February 8, 11 a.m. at Torrance First Baptist Church, 2118 W. Carson St., Torrance.
