The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Japanese Dual Language Program (DLP) will honor National Foundation Day on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. in the auditorium at Amestroy Elementary School, 1049 W. 149th St., Gardena.
Learn about the LAUSD’s only Japanese DLP and enjoy cultural performances the Japanese DLP students, L.A. Men’s Glee Club, and Japanese classical dancer Bando Hidesomi. The event is free and open to the public.
Now in its fourth year, the program has grown from kindergarten to third-grade classrooms. It is designed to provide high-quality education delivered to students in both Japanese and English. Students receive instruction in all school subjects, promoting high levels of bilingualism and biliteracy.
The program currently has two dedicated teachers who are fluent Japanese speakers and California credentialed with graduate degrees. Japanese-language classrooms are state-of-the-art with new technology board, speakers and lighting, plus a comfortable classroom environment with ergonomic chairs and libraries.
National Foundation Day (Kenkoku Kinen no Hi) is a public holiday observed in Japan on Feb. 11. It commemorates the founding of Japan by the legendary Emperor Jimmu.
