The Akimoto brothers and other Nisei soldiers from Los Angeles who fought and died in World War II will be honored at a book event for “Brothers in Arms: Remembering Brothers Buried Side by Side in American World War II Cemeteries” on Thursday, Aug. 14, at 12 p.m. at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, 244 S. San Pedro St. in Little Tokyo.

Author Kevin M. Callahan will discuss his book and sign copies.

This gripping account brings to life the personal stories of soldiers during the most challenging moments of World War II. Through first-hand accounts and historical records, the book paints a vivid picture of the realities of war and the unbreakable connections forged in its crucible. More than just a history book — it’s a tribute to the human spirit and the bonds that sustained men through the darkest hours.

After visiting the American cemetery at Normandy shortly after college, Callahan was deeply moved by both the beauty of the grounds and the sacrifice of so many. This experience planted the seed for what would become his life’s work.

Light fare and refreshments will be provided. Free admission.
