The East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center hosted its annual Akimatsuri Festival on Oct. 11, on the street in front of the center. Scores of visitors came to the event, co-presented by the ESGVJCC and the City of West Covina.
Booths and trucks were set up along Puente Avenue, featuring food, games, activities, local merchants, student groups and community organizations. Attendees were treated to delightful autumn conditions, with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s.
ESGVJCC Queen Mia Miyoko Takatsuka served as emcee for the free event, introducing music and dance groups, visiting dignitaries and martial arts demonstrations. The festival kicked off with a special presentation with West Covina city officials and special guests.
