The community is invited to a live performance by the Grateful Crane Ensemble on Sunday, Jan. 25, at the Southeast Japanese School and Community Center (SEJSCC), 14615 Gridley Rd., Norwalk.
The dramatic musical “One Man’s Dream” traces the history of the Southeast Japanese School, blending storytelling and music to honor resilience, heritage, and the Japanese American experience.
The play is written by Soji Kashiwagi and features Jason Fong, Haruye Ioka, Merv Maruyama, Helen Ota, and Ping Wu.
The performance will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m., with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. General admission is $10, and children 12 and under are free. Seating is limited, and RSVP is required. Payment will be collected at the door; cash, check, credit card, and Apple Pay are accepted. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
Founded on land purchased by Juichi Nawa in the early 1900s, SEJSCC — which celebrated its centennial last year — continues a legacy of preserving Japanese language and culture.
The event is sponsored by The George and Sakaye Aratani CARE Award and UCLA’s Asian American Studies Center. RSVP at www.sejscc.org.
