
The community is invited to experience the beauty, warmth, and joy of Japanese culture at the Akune Mission Japan Festival, a charity event connecting Japan and the U.S., on Sunday, March 8, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 9812 Hamilton Ave., Huntington Beach.
Hosted by Akune Mission, the festival supports disaster relief efforts and fosters meaningful cross-cultural connections between the two countries. Guests will enjoy an afternoon filled with traditional and cultural experiences, including:
- Relaxing shakuhachi performances
- Photo opportunities in authentic kimono
- Japanese green tea tastings
- Live classical string quartet
- “Kawachi Ondo” Bon dance held twice during the event; dancers of all levels welcome
- Traditional Japanese folk music by Matsutoyo Kai
The festival also offers family-friendly fun:
- Make-your-own onigiri station (kids’ favorite)
- Shopping booths featuring Japanese goods, kimono, and accessories
- Yakisoba and a drink included with admission
- Beer and sake corner (21+ only)
Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children, and includes yakisoba and one drink.
