Little Tokyo Nutrition Services celebrated Oshogatsu at Little Tokyo Towers on Jan. 22.
Don Tahara of Far Bar donated bento to all the seniors. LTNS’ program has been severely impacted by the governmental budget cuts. Despite this challenge, people like Tahara continue to help and support LTNS as it brings in the new year.
Darlene Kuba, president of the LTNS Board, welcomed everyone and wished them a happy new year.
Greetings were delivered by Naoko Kamitani, deputy consul general of Japan; Bob Kawahara, former president of the Little Tokyo Towers Board; and Beverly Ito, CEO and president of Keiro.
The entertainment was provided by Chester Ikei and the Ulka Laili group, Margaret Asato of the Endpin Group of the North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble, the Little Tokyo Towers Singing Group, and many other performers.
LTNS serves 130 meals to seniors Monday through Friday through congregate and home delivery programs. It also provides social and supportive services as well as classes like origami, Ulka Laili, chair yoga, mahjong, and many other activities.
