Fred Bunichi Oda, born in Los Angeles, California, on March 3, 1926, resident of Claremont and Anaheim, California, passed away at his home in Emerald Court, Anaheim, California, on December 2, 2025, at the age of 99. His wife, Toshiko Oda, passed away two years earlier on December 11, 2023.
Fred is survived by his children and their spouses, Tom and Debi Oda, Frances and Rick Caille, Susan and Dan Whitmore, and Kimi and Derrick Rocha; grandchildren including their spouses, Steven Oda, Sarah Oda and Chris Lieu, Mariel and Travis Chiang, Elise Caille and Wayne Chen, Diana Whitmore, Graham Whitmore, Katherine Rocha, and Kyle Rocha; great-grandchildren, Clifford Kenji Chiang, Chloe Toshiko Chiang, and Kaia Mas Lieu. Fred is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, 10:30 a.m., at West Covina Christian Church, 1100 East Cameron Ave., West Covina, CA 91790, officiated by Pastor Darren Kishimoto.
