July 17, 1931 – March 24, 2026
June Kazumi Nagai of Monterey Park, California, passed away peacefully on March 24, at her daughter’s home in Santa Rosa, California.
Born in downtown Los Angeles, June experienced the upheaval of wartime incarceration during World War II. Following the war, her family returned to her father’s hometown near Hiroshima, Japan, where she completed her primary and secondary education. As a young adult, she came back to the United States in the 1950s, married Masaji Nagai, and settled in Monterey Park, where she raised her family and resided for many years.
Like many women of her generation, June devoted herself to her family as a homemaker before pursuing higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Los Angeles in 1987 and went on to work for the Los Angeles County Office of Education until her retirement in 1999.
June cherished time spent with family in Santa Rosa and Phoenix, Arizona, and enjoyed occasional travel with local community organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Masaji Nagai. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy; her son, Ken; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn; and her grandchildren, Hayley, Kendall, Ryan, and Jaeden.
A burial service will be held on May 30, 3 p.m. at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier – Ridgeview Terrace, Gate 1, Lot 2711.
