Two Japanese features will be screened on Saturday, May 16, at the Redlands Japanese Cultural Center, 542 E. Stuart Ave., Redlands.

“Suzume” (2022), directed by Makoto Shinkai, at 12 p.m. as part of Anime Movie Matinee.

A modern action-adventure road story where a 17-year-old girl named Suzume helps a mysterious young man close doors from the other side that are releasing disasters all over Japan. Voice cast includes Nanoka Hara, Hokuto Matsumura and Eri Fukatsu.

Masatoshi Nagase stars in “The Hidden Blade.”

“The Hidden Blade” (2004), directed by Yoji Yamada, at 6 p.m. as part of Samurai Movie Night.

A 19th-century samurai, held in low esteem due to an action by his late father, must resolve his history with a maid and with his close friend. The cast includes Masatoshi Nagase, Takako Matsu and Hidetaka Yoshioka.
