The Little Tokyo Community Council (LTCC), a nonprofit community coalition of neighborhood stakeholders, will hold its annual benefit dance on Saturday, June 27, at the L.A. Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple (Nishi) Kaikan, 815 E. First St. in Little Tokyo.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with live music and dancing beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Established in 1999, LTCC advocates on behalf of the Little Tokyo community and works to protect, preserve, and promote the character and values of one of the nation’s last remaining historic Japantowns. Through community organizing, advocacy, small business support, placemaking initiatives, and public engagement, LTCC brings together residents, businesses, cultural and religious institutions, and community organizations to speak with one voice for the future of Little Tokyo.
As challenges facing Little Tokyo continue to grow, support for LTCC’s work remains critical. Proceeds from the annual dance benefit will help sustain LTCC’s efforts to advocate for the neighborhood, strengthen community partnerships, and preserve Little Tokyo for future generations.
The evening will feature music by Kokoro, dancing, and opportunities for community members and supporters to come together for a fun-filled night in support of Little Tokyo.
“Community dances have long been a cherished tradition in Little Tokyo, bringing together friends, families, and neighbors across generations,” said Kristin Fukushima, executive director of LTCC. “This event is not only a chance to enjoy an evening of music and dancing, but also an opportunity to support the collective work of protecting and sustaining Little Tokyo.”
Sponsorship opportunities, table reservations, individual tickets, and donations are available. Those unable to attend are encouraged to support LTCC through a tax-deductible contribution.
