Kimonocon is proud to present “Rakugo @ Los Angeles,” a special performance by internationally acclaimed English Rakugo storyteller Katsura Sunshine, taking place on Monday and Tuesday, July 6-7, at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) at Japan House Los Angeles, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Level 5, Hollywood.
Following the success of his previous Los Angeles appearance, which delighted audiences ranging from first-time rakugo viewers to longtime enthusiasts of Japanese culture, Katsura Sunshine returns to Los Angeles with another unforgettable evening of laughter, storytelling, and cultural exchange.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Katsura Sunshine became the first non-Japanese professional rakugo performer after apprenticing under the legendary rakugo master Katsura Bunshi VI (formerly Katsura Sanshi). Today, he performs throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, sharing the rich tradition of rakugo with audiences around the world.
Known for his captivating stage presence, masterful storytelling, and ability to portray multiple characters using only a fan and a hand towel, Katsura Sunshine brings centuries-old Japanese comic storytelling to life for modern audiences. His performances transcend language and cultural barriers, creating laughter and connection among people of all backgrounds.
Presented by Kimonocon, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Japanese culture and fostering cultural exchange, this event offers a rare opportunity to experience one of Japan’s most beloved performing arts in English.
General admission: $50. Premium VIP admission ($70) includes preferred seating and priority access to the meet-and-greet session. Limited to 20 tickets per performance.
