The 40th anniversary of John Carpenter’s supernatural action-comedy classic “Big Trouble in Little China” (1986) will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, with a screening at Gardena Cinema, 14948 Crenshaw Blvd., Gardena.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Meet-and-greet at 6 p.m. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m. Q&A and cosplay winners at 9:30 p.m.
Special guests include Gerald Okamura, who had a small but memorable role as Wing Kong Hatchet Man, and Alan Howarth, music composer.
Okamura is an actor, martial artist and stuntman whose numerous film credits include “Ninja Academy,” “Showdown in Little Tokyo,” “Samurai Cop,” “Karate Wars,” “Rapid Fire,” “Shadow of the Dragon,” “The Shadow,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Blade,” “Vampire Assassin” and “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.”
“Big Trouble in Little China,” set in a mysterious underworld beneath San Francisco Chinatown, stars Kurt Russell, Dennis Dun, Kim Catrall, James Hong, Victor Wong, Kate Burton, Donald Li, Carter Wong, Peter Kwong, James Pax and Suzee Pai. Al Leong and Nathan Jung appear with Okamura as Wing Kong members and Jeff Imada plays a member of the Lords of Death.
Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters.
