Wesley and Martha Nishinaka were among the dancers in Nishi’s 2023 Bon Odori.
Los Angeles Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple (Nishi), 815 First St. in Little Tokyo, will hold its 2026 Obon Carnival on Saturday, July 11, from 3 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, July 12, from 3 to 8:30 p.m.
Bon Odori starts at 6:30 p.m. The festival will also feature food booths, a produce market, entertainment, games for kids, and more.
Dancers are asked to bring their uchiwa, naruko, kachi kachi and tenugui, and to wear comfortable shoes.
L.A. Taiko Ichiza will perform at 5:45 p.m. both days. Kizuna Taiko Arts and L.A. Taiko Ichiza’s Summer Public Class will perform on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Nishi Bondaiko kids will play during Bon Odori.
Chado demonstration and matcha service on July 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. $10 for serving of sweets and matcha.
