Seinan Koreisha Senior Care (SKSC), a merger between Seinan Senior Citizens’ Club and Koreisha Senior Care & Advocacy, recently held its shinnenkai (New Year’s celebration) at Seinan Center in Los Angeles with about 100 people in attendance.

SKSC is planning to open a senior day care program with bilingual and bicultural services.

Shun Sekiguchi of SKSC served as emcee. Opening remarks were made by Kurtis Kobayashi, SKSC board chairman, and Shinichiro Koga, SKSC president.

After lunch, Dr. Keiko Ikeda, adult day care administrator, gave an update on the day care program; Eileen Yoshimura, SKSC Board assistant secretary, gave an update on the merger; and Yoichi Shimizutani, SKSC intern, gave an update on the Capital Campaign.

The SKSC Board and members donated items for the opportunity drawing. USC students helped with set-up the day before and CSU Northridge students staffed the reception table, served food and cleaned up during the event.

JACL and an anonymous donor sponsored the bento from Nijiya and SKSC member Rachel Koza provided lunch table favors. Japanese American Community Credit Union provided additional parking.

In addition to Kobayashi, Koga, Ikeda and Yoshimura, SKSC board members include Dr. Barry Goy, Dr. Kenji Irie, Hisamori Iwashita, Shinkichi Koyama, Tony Merken, David Miyoshi, Rev. Mark Nakagawa, David Nose, Naoko Okada, Mitchy Terashima, Kyoko Watanabe and Satoko Watanabe.

The event was a good opportunity for Seinan and Koreisha members to meet each other and work together.
