The Greater Los Angeles JACL and Intercollegiate Nikkei Council recently presented a concert with Hana Effron and Travis Atreo at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute.

Opening remarks were made by Mitchell Matsumura, president of GLA JACL, and Julia Endow and Adam Kim, co-presidents of Intercollegiate Nikkei Council. Proceeds from the concert support the two organizations’ youth programs.

The council is a coalition of Nikkei Student Unions at universities throughout Southern California.

Effron, a singer who also plays piano and guitar, started out doing cover videos on TikTok and is now working on her third studio album, a follow-up to “Let’s Talk” (2024) and “I Live in Wonder” (2025).

At the concert she performed “Last First Kiss,” “All Over Me,” “Strawberry Tongue,” and “Every Time You Call Me.”

Atreo, formerly the lead singer of the band New Heights, is now pursuing a career as a music producer. He is known for his albums “Keep the Hope Alive” (2017) and “Love Drunk” (2020).

Both artists’ music can be found on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify and other sites.

The program, which included appetizers from Mendocino Farms, The Local Place, and Rascals, was made possible by JACL Legacy Fund Grants.
