
Randall (Randy) Tamura, Los Angeles-born Sansei, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the age of 74 on August 28, 2026. He grew up in Los Angeles before completing his undergrad and master’s degrees at Cal and Princeton, respectively. He returned to the Los Angeles area, pursuing a career in software development for nearly 40 years. He was a fervent football fan, following the L.A. Rams and Cal football teams, as well as a major supporter of Asian American arts and theater.
He is survived by his wife, Mari Tamura; son, Eric (Amy) Tamura; grandchildren, Max, Mia, and Marco Tamura; brothers, Leonard Tamura, Scott (Karin) Tamura; also survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He is predeceased by his parents, Bud (Masahiko) and Fumi Tamura. A memorial service is planned at the East West Players’ David Henry Hwang Theater, 120 Judge John Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, on Sept. 19, 2026 at 10 a.m.
