The world premiere of “Godzilla Minus Zero” took place on Oct. 28 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Director and writer Takashi Yamazaki and cast members, including Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe — who reprise their roles as Koichi and Noriko Shikishima from “Godzilla Minus One” — walked the red carpet.

A sequel to “Godzilla Minus One” (2023) and the 39th film in the Godzilla franchise, “Godzilla Minus Zero” also stars returning cast members Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Kamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando and Miou Tanaka with Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa and Jun Kunimura as new characters.

Godzilla himself made an appearance for the premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

In the sequel, set in 1949, Japan — still struggling to rebuild from the war — faces a new threat from King Ghidorah, a three-headed monster. When Godzilla regenerates and resurfaces, a plan is hatched to draw the two kaiju into a confrontation.

Following the commercial and critical success of “Godzilla Minus One,” which won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, Toho announced in November 2024 that Yamazaki would helm the sequel.

As the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, “Godzilla Minus Zero” was shot with high-definition digital cameras certified by IMAX, and optimized in sound and imagery unique to IMAX screens. It is also the first Godzilla film to receive an R rating.

The film was released in Japan on Nov. 3 by Toho and by GKIDS as a wide theatrical release across North America beginning Nov. 6. The Japan release marked the 70th anniversary of the first Godzilla film, which opened nationwide on Nov. 3, 1954.
