J.K. Yamamoto is a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of CSU Long Beach. He studied for one year at Waseda University in Tokyo and took graduate courses and taught ESL at UCLA. He was a staff member at Pacific Citizen (1984-87), English editor of Hokubei Mainichi in San Francisco (1987-2009), and staff writer for Rafu Shimpo (2010 to present). He has also written for Pacific Ties (UCLA), East West News (San Francisco), San Francisco Bay Guardian, and other publications.
