Marie Shiba passed away peacefully at the Fresno Community Hospital on Sept. 25. Born Marie Haruko Kawamura in Parlier, Calif. on Feb. 24, 1920, she was 89.
Raised in Parlier, her family moved to Arcadia, Calif., where her father farmed flowers for the wholesale market. Marie married William Shiba on Jan. 29, 1945 in Chicago and they settled in the Central San Joaquin Valley where they raised their 4 children.
November of 1972, she started a job with the Internal Revenue Service. This new job would turn into a 28-year career as a Federal Employee.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, William Shiba; one son, Martin Shiba; and his wife, Diana; three daughters, Patricia Kiefer; and her husband, David, Kristine Shiba, and Virginia Young and her husband, Chris; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a sister, Kaye Sakamoto.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 9 from 4-8 p.m. and funeral service will be on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. at Dinuba Presbyterian Church, 1250 E. Nebraska Ave., Dinuba, CA 93618-9312, (559) 591-6610. There will be a private burial on a future date.
