Mrs. Dorothy Takenouchi of Miami, Fla., passed away on Jan. 19, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Takenouchi in August 1992. Born on Sept. 21, 1920 in Los Angeles County, Dorothy graduated from NYU in New York City and worked as a Registered Nurse in NY and Miami before starting a family.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Nitz, her husband Dan and children Zach and Sharidan (Mooresville, NC); son Wayne Takenouchi and his wife Denise (Placentia, Calif.); sister Alice (Las Vegas, Nev.); brother John Hayashi (San Mateo, Calif.); and sister Helen Takemori (Alexandria, Va.).
She will be dearly missed by her family and many longtime friends. She lived an active life volunteering annually at the Dade County Youth Fair, taking monthly trips with the National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees and with her swimming and water exercise group.
At Dorothy’s request, no funeral service was held in Miami.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes, with Rev. Shuichi Kurai of Sozenji Buddhist Temple officiating.
