Roe “Roy” Kawamoto was 88. He passed away on Nov. 17, 2010 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY. He was born on Dec. 19, 1921 in Alhambra, Calif. His parents were Yoichi Harry and Kimi Haida Kawamoto.
He married Fumiko May Kato on December 22, 1947. Children: Janet (Bill) DeSilva, Rodney Kawamoto and Cordy (Judy) Kawamoto. Grandchildren: Brian (Katelin) DeSilva, Kevin (Mara) DeSilva, Kelly, Michael and Corey Kawamoto. Great-grandchildren: Aiden DeSilva and Emma DeSilva.
He graduated from Alhambra High School, class of 1939. He lived in West Los Angeles, for 38 years before moving to NY to live with his daughter. Twenty-eight years prior were lived in Hobart, NY where his children grew up. He worked as a chicken sexor in the East. When he returned to L.A. he worked for Nippon Express and was a housing manager.
He and Fumi belonged to a dance club. Roy was an avid silhouette shooter and fly and surf fisherman. Other survivors include a sister-in-law Masako Yotsukura, a brother-in-law Isamu Bill Nishimoto, a niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother James and his sister Mine “Minnie” Nishimoto. A memorial service was held in Hobart, NY. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family.
