Samuel Michiro Uyematsu, Montebello-born Nisei and former Manzanar internee, passed away on Aug. 22, 2011 at the age of 77. Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Hideko (Miki); his sister Marian (George) Naito; niece Mary (John) Kao and family; niece Amy Uyematsu and family; and other relatives on the East Coast and in Japan. A private memorial was held on Sept. 4, 2011 at the Nichiren Shoshu Myohoji Temple in West Hollywood.
