The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center is raising funds to reopen the Aratani Japan America Theatre through the Opportunity Drawing for a 2011 Honda Insight Hybrid EX.

A $100 contribution of five tickets will include a free bonus ticket, providing opportunities to own one of the best eco-friendly vehicles produced today. The winner will be selected Sunday, Jan. 8, at JACCC’s signature New Year’s program, “Kotohajime,” which starts at 1 p.m. at 244 S. San Pedro St. in Little Tokyo.

“Your support will contribute to repairs and upgrades needed for our treasured Aratani Japan America Theatre,” said Chris Aihara, JACCC’s outgoing executive director. “Our 30-year-old facility is in need of a new boiler, air-conditioning controls and upgrades to its sound and lighting system.

“Help us to make sure that the theater continues to be the important stage for Japanese and Japanese American performing arts, and a venue for downtown cultural and community activities. Our goal is to reopen by summer of 2012, with an exciting schedule of programs, and we can achieve this goal with your support and participation.

“We cannot convey adequately our appreciation for this opportunity provided by American Honda, especially in these continued difficult economic times and with so many organizations in need.”
