Boy Scout Troop 719 members Grant Takashi Oshimo, Jordin Matthew Hino, Justin Isamu Shimane and Drew Masao Watanabe were honored on March 3 at the Ken Nakaoka Memorial Community Center in Gardena for their achievement of the highest scouting rank as Eagle Scouts. The scouts are sponsored by Faith United Methodist Church in Torrance. Honor, prestige and pride are characteristics associated with a scout’s trail to Eagle achievement. To earn this rank, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service and outdoor skills. A number of specific skills are required to advance through the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life, and scouts must pass specific tests that are organized by requirements and merit badges. Merit badges help them to master certain skills, as well as help boys increase their skill in an area of personal interest. In addition to the 12 required merit badges, an Eagle Scout is required to plan and complete a community service project.
