LONG BEACH — Join the Long Beach Public Library for a reception and presentation with Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, author of “Farewell to Manzanar,” her compelling memoir about her Japanese American internment experience during World War II, on Saturday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at the Main Library Auditorium, 101 Pacific Ave., Long Beach.

Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston

Houston was 7 years old in 1942 when her family was uprooted from their Long Beach home and fishing business. Written with her husband, author James D. Houston, the book provides a unique perspective on this important chapter in U.S. history.

The Houstons were also involved in the production of a 1976 made-for-TV movie based on the book. Both the book and movie have been made available to California schools and libraries.
